Liposuction is an ideal method to remove accumulated fat deposits in a targeted way. Problem zones for women tend to be “saddle bags.” Men, on the other hand, usually want to know how they can remove the “tire” around their waist. By using the most modern technology and micro cannulas, our surgeons are able to do incredibly precise work at clearly defined areas of the body. The proven tumescent technique, also know as the “super wet technique”, has stood the test of time for more than three decades and works by using gentle micro suction cannulas that barely leave behind any scars.

The liposuction process

Shortly before your procedure, the surgeon will have you stand and will mark the areas of the skin to undergo liposuction. After preparatory measures such as disinfecting and covering the operative area, you will be put into either twilight sleep or general anesthesia. Upon request, we can also perform the procedure using local anesthetic. Under the tumescent approach, tiny cannulas are injected under the skin on the areas of skin that have been marked. The surgeon then makes multiple tiny incisions in the area to be suctioned, which will then need to be closed with special bandages. These small openings allow for the insertion of the small micro cannulas. By moving the cannula back and forth in the fatty tissue in a fan-shaped motion, fat cells can be detached and then suctioned out. Directly after suctioning, the patient receives a compression girdle, which they must wear for 6 weeks. This ensures that the excess skin remaining retracts well and that the body does not temporarily retain too much fluid.

Fat that has been suctioned out does not grow back

The results you see with liposuction are permanent – once the fat cells have been removed, they cannot grow back. Nevertheless, patients who have undergone liposuction should still watch their weight. If the body takes in too many calories, that can activate remaining fat deposits in other parts of the body.

Lipolysis – the alternative method for small fat deposits

If the problem area is smaller, e.g., a double chin or a fatty pouch near the knee, a conservative, non-invasive method is suitable to remove these unwanted fat deposits. With lipolysis, a soy bean enzyme is injected into the affected area. The enzyme slowly dissolves the layer of fat. This treatment is carried out over multiple sessions.
